Sean O’Malley quickly turned from a supporter to an enemy of Conor McGregor following the Irishman’s distasteful comments about the bantamweight champion. ‘Suga’ even fired back at the former double champion on his YouTube podcast. But now, O’Malley seems to be open about the possibility of clashing against his former idol. The return of Conor McGregor to the UFC scene has made many people talk about some possible big-time matchups for ‘The Notorious’. However, nobody is expecting him to fight someone from a lower-weight class, which is when Sean O’Malley comes in.

‘Suga’s recent appearance on a podcast made for an unusual claim by the 135-pound champion.

Sean O’Malley has no problems taking on a much bigger Conor McGregor

Sean O’Malley is not quite as ambitious as Alex Pereira when it comes to hopping across different weight classes. The Brazilian has spoken many times about his wish to possibly fight in a third weight class, the heavyweight division, in the future. However, that’s not up for consideration for our flamboyant bantamweight champion.

“I’m pretty realistic when it comes to big guys like… I’d stay in my lane,” Sean O’Malley stated on the Bradley Martin’s Raw Talk . However, the Montana native is willing to make an exception when it comes to fighting ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor, and that too in the latter’s weight class. Seems like everybody wants a piece of the Irishman. “Conor is one of the only guys that I would fight. That motherf***er’s big. I’d fight him at 55′.”

‘Suga’ has two genuine reasons for making that claim, including a chance to make more money than he ever has and the chance to add a legendary opponent to his record because things don’t get any bigger than a chance to share the Octagon with the biggest MMA superstar the world has seen, past or present.

“First of all, it’s a huge payday. Second of all, [fighting] Conor, like, that’d be legendary… He’s actually one of the rare guys I would fight that are actually way out of my weight class,” Sean O’Malley added. The bantamweight champion also went on to present his take on the reason Conor McGregor called him out.

‘Suga’ is starting to take McGregor’s spot? O’Malley explains

Sean O’Malley claims that Conor McGregor is not the same as he used to be. The fame and money he’s made while fighting inside the eight-sided cage may have had a part to play in that. Furthermore, the 29-year-old claims to be reaching a point in his career when he might steal the throne that the 35-year-old sits on in the not-so-distant future. That, O’Malley believes, could be the only reason McGregor took a shot at him while calling out Ryan Garcia for his positive drug test.

“I do think there was lot of jealousy. People like that, that big of an ego, he sees what’s happening. He sees [that] he’s starting to get pushed out [and] I’m starting to come up… There’s no other reason for him to talk about me,” O’Malley added. Meanwhile, Conor McGregor has remained silent on this issue ever since deleting the tweet in which he bashed ‘Suga’.

Where does this story end? Well, we don’t know because Conor McGregor has only one more fight left on his contract. Also, it is unlikely that he would fight Sean O’Malley to end his contract when there are other lightweights actively seeking a fight against him. We will have to wait and see how this situation shapes up in the days and months to come.
