Former UFC champion turned commentator Michael Bisping took to Twitter and jumped on board with fellow Englishman Leon Edwards. ‘Rocky’ Edwards recently spoke to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani about the booking of his upcoming bout against Khamzat Chimaev. Leon is keen to stop the hype train that Chimaev has created.
Leon Edwards was dismissive of the up-and-coming star who has gained significant traction in the UFC. Moreover, Edwards went on to cite several reasons why Khamzat’s hype wasn’t a factor that was taken into consideration. Michael Bisping has given a co-sign to Leon’s claims and it’s clear that Bisping is riding with his fellow countryman.
Every point he made is correct. https://t.co/1IqyGhEPTX

The booking of the aforementioned welterweight scrap took place under odd circumstances, to say the least. News broke that ‘Rocky’ was no longer part of the ranks, and this caught everyone off guard.

Leon was back in the rankings and the fight between Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev came through not long after. Fans and media members were quick to speculate that he was removed from the rankings to strong-arm a booking against ‘Borz’. This narrative has added yet another layer of intrigue to a match-up that wasn’t on fans’ radars.

Chiefly, the bout itself has great potential for both fighters to become major players in the talent stacked 170-pound division. What’s more, Khamzat may find himself fighting for a title after just 10 professional fights should he win. As for Leon Edwards, he’ll be keen to stop the hype train and swipe the shine that Khamzat has generated.

The fight is a stylistic enigma as both the elite fighters come in with rounded skills in the striking and grappling department. There is no doubt that this will be a good litmus test for ‘Borz’ Chimaev to judge his career trajectory. Should he effortlessly defeat Edwards, who’s on an eight-fight win streak, the sky will be the limit.
