Tyron Woodley feels he did not get the respect (and money) he deserved in his stint at the UFC. Although the former UFC welterweight champion had a good run in the promotion before retiring in 2021, his biggest payday came when he boxed celebrity boxer and former Disney Channel star Jake Paul after his UFC retirement.

However, the American seems determined to make up for his losses and has started a new promotion company to control all aspects of all his future fights. And already ‘The Chosen One’ seems to have secured significant funding for his new venture if the claims he made in a recent interview are true.

Tyron Woodley spoke to TMZ Sports about his new promotion and which fighters he had approached to fight him. The 41-year-old revealed that he had started his own promotion and claimed that his first preference for opponent was former UFC fighters he respects and admires and who, like him, did not get their financial due in the UFC.

‘The Chosen One’ stated that he had offered UFC icon Georges St-Pierre eight figures, i.e., at least ten million dollars to fight him in the Middle East. GSP, however, refused this offer and told Woodley he had left prize fighting behind him.

“I started my own International promotion… and I’m looking to fight guys that are legendary to me, that I feel like may not have gotten the respect and the money that they should have gotten when they were in the top of the top. Like Georges St-Pierre, I offered him a dumb bag he said ‘no, I’m not in that world anymore,'” the 41-year-old said.

Woodley has long held a desire to face GSP since his UFC days, but the Canadian’s refusal prompted him to approach another UFC legend: Nick Diaz. “I offered Nick Diaz a dumb bag [and] when I say dumb, I’m talking about pushing eight-figures to fight me in the Middle East,” he added. Woodley also shed light on his new venture and what direction he wanted to take it in.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
