The MMA community, along with Dana White, came together in an hour of need for ex-UFC star, Steven Ray. Back in March 2023, the Scottish MMA star shared distressing news via his social media. Ray’s 7-year-old daughter needed brain surgery and the PFL star set up a ‘GoFundMe’ page in order to raise the required amount.

The MMA community came together in solidarity to help save little Myla. UFC President Dana White donated 10,000 pounds while PFL donated 15,000 pounds. Their contributions went a long way in meeting the required 90K pounds ($120K) mark.

Steven Ray shares an update on his daughter’s condition

After Dana White and other members of the MMA community generously helped, Myla is all set to undergo her brain surgery. Steven Ray shared the news via a recent Instagram post. He wrote, “In hospital now for Myla’s surgery tomorrow morning. That 1st pic feels not too long ago when she was a baby but 8 years ago now, to think even seeing her there that something wrong with her brain.”

He continued, “Thank you again everyone for all the support. Her Surgery tomorrow is 6 hours long. Nat & I will update everyone when we can.”

Ray also added two pictures of his daughter- one as an infant and one from recent times. The comments section under the post was filled with well-wishes from fans and supporters.

What exactly is Myla Ray’s medical condition?

Seven-year-old Myla Ray has frontal lobe epilepsy and cortical dysplasia. Owing to this condition, the family has to make frequent hospital visits.

In an interview with STV News, the father said, “When it first started, the multiple seizures, during the Covid pandemic, she started going really thin, you could see her ribs, she had bruises from head to toe because the seizure can happen at any point.”

Ray shared concern that as Myla grew older, her quality of life would deteriorate, as she would need supervision for daily activities for fear of seizures. Speaking of the surgery, he said, “We’re hopeful that this surgery is successful and it gives Myla a much better quality of life and us as a whole family.”

Ray also thanked the many people who donated and help raise the amount for his daughter’s treatment.
