Why did Conor McGregor reside to weight cut?

Some fighters are known widely for their weight-cut techniques. In this, they would stop consuming water or any liquid substance a few days before the weigh-ins. This would help them shrink down to a lighter weight category, giving them an edge in the real fight for being comparatively bigger than the opponent.
