For good or bad, the UFC Apex in Las Vegas is now an integral part of the UFC experience. In the late 2010’s, Dana White and Co. started working on the idea of having its own live event venue in its hometown of Las Vegas, where it could hold smaller events and save costs on renting other venues. But once the COVID-19 lockdowns hit and restrictions were placed on large public gatherings, the UFC moved almost all of its cards to the Apex. Back then, the Apex made sense since the promotion had little choice but to move its events to the relatively small venue. But here’s the kicker: fans hate the Apex.
The Octagon there is twenty-five feet wide, much smaller than the standard thirty feet wide Octagon the UFC uses elsewhere. Not to mention the venue has a capacity of less than a thousand audience members. Simply put, the atmosphere in the Apex just doesn’t feel like a UFC anywhere else, with loud crowds and palpable electricity in the air. And although the UFC doesn’t hold any PPV events in the Apex anymore, it does still host a fair number of Fight Night events there. And the latest emerging news around it has left fans unhappy, to say the least.
MMAJunkie reporter Nolan King appeared on X to deliver the latest update. Apparently, two more Apex events are about to be added to the schedule as the UFC has requested permits from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to hold cards – in all probability, Fight Nights – on August 2 and August 9.

Since the Apex opened in June 2019, it has hosted a whopping 112 UFC events, a overwhelming majority of them being Fight Night cards. The UFC has taken it easy with the Apex this year, and only held five events in the Vegas venue so far, with three more confirmed. It still probably won’t hold sixteen events there this year as it did in 2024, but fans are still not happy, and didn’t react well to learning they will have to do with Apex events on back-to-back events in 2025.

Fans incensed at Dana White over two more Apex cards being added to the 2025 UFC schedule
One fan who apparently wanted the UFC Apex gone altogether was really disappointed that Dana White and Co. were doubling down on the venue: “I guess we’re really never getting rid of the Apex“. Another was absolutely dejected and seemed traumatized at the prospects of two more Apex cards being added to the UFC calendar: “every time these tweets show up on my TL it crushes my spirit. 2025 and the Apex still lives…“
On X user didn’t seem to be a big fan of the Fight Night cards, which are criticized often by fans for being underwhelming – and found them akin to fillers in between the marquee numbered PPV events: “Welp, more nothing burger cards in between ppvs are still happening in 2025.“
What’s your perspective on:
Is the UFC Apex killing the thrill of Fight Nights, or is it a necessary evil?

Another fan hilariously called on the Nevada State Athletic Commission to deny the UFC the permits they need for the August cards so the promotion is forced to hold those cards elsewhere: “please deny their permits NSAC… please…“

One fan was particularly incensed at UFC head honcho Dana White personally, and felt he was personally responsible for the fans being subject to Apex cards: “Dana just won’t let that empty s—hole go“. However, one keen-eyed fan blamed the Covid-19 pandemic for helping the UFC realize it could hold a lot of events in the Apex and still make money off of streaming, which has encouraged the promotion to persist with the sundry Apex card strategy: “Covid was a massive excuse for laziness to just become the status quo cause they know people will still watch“.
While the Apex continues to take shots like a fighter unable to keep up his defenses, what are your thoughts on the situation? Was the UFC adding back to back Apex cards on its August schedule a good decision? Chime in below!
