Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya have a beef. Their hostility, which has been festering for the past year since their verbal tiff at a press conference, was front and center at their pre-fight press conference ahead of their clash at UFC 293 tonight.

Israel Adesanya accuses Strickland of selling his soul

In the pre-fight press conference for UFC 293, Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland predictably went back and forth. And while some, such as former middleweight champion Michael Bisping think that Strickland came out the winner in their exchange. However, Adesanya did corner Strickland on signing with the beverage company, Monster Energy, and accused the American of selling his soul for the endorsement.

“When did you sign a Monster Energy deal? When did you sell your soul? Tell me, hey, you signed your soul recently, right? Isn’t it funny every time I have to fight someone, Monster signs them immediately and becomes a fan of them. You know why? Because I didn’t sell out and I didn’t sell my soul. What’d you have to do to that pig-headed f*** [Hans Molenkamp], huh? What do you have to do to sell your soul? To get that deal?” he said.

Strickland replied to ‘Izzy’s rant by expressing his love for Monster Energy. “Give me a f***ing dirt bike, I f***ing love Monster,” he said.

Israel Adesanya’s beef with Monster Energy

Monster is an official sponsor of the UFC, with it even being featured on the UFC octagon. Adesanya has accused the beverage brand of making fighters change their conduct during their fight promotion. Also, his dislike for Monster executive Hans Molenkamp is well known. Some have accused Molenkamp of using his position for self-promotion. Former UFC champion, Dominick Cruz had even come out earlier and criticized the $59 billion brand’s executive for this. It should be noted, however, that Adesanya has said that he does not have anything against the brand, implying that his problem is with Molenkamp.

Whatever the result of their fight may be, one thing is clear. Their feud is personal and a loss would be utterly humiliating for either man. While some say that Adesanya will become the laughingstock of the UFC world if he loses, and if Adesanya knocks out Strickland, he has promised to dance on his figurative grave and wear nail paint during their fight to annoy Strickland.
