Former UFC lightweight champion ‘The Underground King’ Eddie Alvarez is set to return in action against Iuri Lapicus in April.

Alvarez currently competes under the ONE Championship promotion. He last competed in 2019 as he choked out Eduard Folayang in his second appearance in the promotion.

Alvarez is looking to become a 3 organization World Champion. He has previously been a champion in the UFC and Bellator MMA. A true veteran of the game, the 37-year-old Alvarez is on a quest to conquer the ONE Championship world title as well.

The April card will also see UFC legend Demetrious Johnson challenge ONE FC flyweight champion, Adriano Moraes. Johnson is a former UFC champion and is considered one of the greatest ever to compete in MMA.

Alvarez had a torrid start to his ONE FC career as he was knocked out by Timofey Natsyukhin in his promotional debut. He has since bounced back with a stoppage win of his own. Now he is on a fresh venture to officially become the best fighter in yet another global promotion.

Eddie Alvarez had a great UFC career

Alvarez arrived in the UFC after earning a split decision win over Michael Chandler in Bellator in a championship bout. His UFC debut didn’t go according to plan as Donald Cerrone proved to be too much for the debutant.

But 2 split decision wins over Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis earned him a title shot against the then-champion Rafael dos Anjos. Alvarez knocked out the Brazilian in Round 1 to officially become the best lightweight on the planet.

At UFC 205, he dropped his belt in his first title defense against Conor McGregor. A no-contest against Dustin Poirier was followed by a knockout win over Justin Gaethje before he lost the rematch to Poirier.

With the UFC lightweight division stacked more than ever, Alvarez decided to pursue his luck elsewhere and joined Asian promotion ONE FC.
