Ben Askren is perhaps one of the most tragic signings that the UFC has ever seen. Prior to joining the UFC, the fighter held welterweight titles in Bellator and ONE Championship. In 2018, the UFC transferred Demetrious Johnson to ONE Championship for Ben Askren.

Ben Askren announced his retirement after two consecutive losses and has not entered an octagon since. He has, however, continued to be involved in UFC news and has remained relevant.

In the recent ESG controversy, the former fighter turned to Twitter to support Elon Musk’s automotive company, Tesla. Tesla was removed from the S&P 500 ESG index, which is a market-cap-weighted index that focuses on sustainability. For those unfamiliar, Tesla is an electric automobile firm that strives for a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.

Askren sided with Tesla on Twitter, retweeting Elon Musk’s tweet.

The fighter wrote, “So amazing. ESG is a scam.” He shared Elon Musk’s tweet, which contained Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s viral meme template. The post also connected the ESG index with a political agenda, which many of Askren’s Twitter followers seem to be against.

One of the users wrote, “Not ruining the environment is a leftist agenda? Thought you loved the outdoors?”

Tesla’s cars do not use up any fuel as they are electric and do not pollute the environment either. The fact that they were removed from a sustainability index is a bit odd, knowing the nature of their company.

Another user wrote, “The leftist agents includes the use of BTC (Bitcoin). Ask to learn more.”

This is ironic, as Ben Askren is a huge supporter of cryptocurrency and advocates it on his social media as well.
