Former Women’s Champion Juliana Pena’s ‘Delusional’ Statement Draws Massive Backlash Following Amanda Nunes’ UFC 285 Announcement

Following reports that UFC double champ Amanda Nunes would be defending her Bantamweight title against Irene Aldana, former champ Julianna Peña came out attacking the Brazilian. Pena, while claiming that Nunes was scared, demanded a rematch to complete their trilogy which is tied at one each.
While the ‘Venezuelan vixen’ won the first fight, she was completely dominated in the second. As a result, fans were quick to shut down her talks of a rematch. Although Pena was impressive in the first outing, fans still don’t seem convinced that she could repeat that performance again.

Fans call Julianna Peña ‘delusional’ for wishing to fight Amanda Nunes again
Reacting to a recent interview of Pena with Forbes, fans on Reddit went all out on the former champ. The 33-year-old in the interview had claimed that Nunes was scared to lose her belt. This led to fans of the Brazilian calling her out for her statement. Let’s take a look at some of the reactions.

Some fans were quite aggressive towards Pena. They said:
“Nunes beat the fucking brakes off of Peña.”
“Pena’s striking is some of the worst in the UFC, Nunes can outgrapple her as well and probably KO her in a trilogy”
Some of the comments were extremely funny, although a bit rude towards the former champ.
“Amanda was bowling her over like a cartoon character with those counters, she’s lucky she has a stupid tough Latina chin.”
“I know her game plan was to come forward but someone should’ve told her it doesn’t mean to literally walk forward into every single shot.”
One fan even compared Pena to CM punk.
“I honestly think CM Punk has better striking than Peña, and I’m not exaggerating.”
A couple of the fans called Pena “delusional”.
“There’s confidence and there’s delusion. Peña falls in the latter category.”
“I straight up love Julianna, this level of delusion is admirable”.
One individual even left a somewhat sarcastic comment.

Should UFC make the trilogy between Pena and Nunes?
With news of Amanda Nunes vs Irene Aldana rumored to be in the works, the question of whether Pena deserved the rematch first was quite natural. The fight set to be held on March 4 at UFC 285 will be Nunes’ first rematch after beating Pena at UFC 277.
Although it is not exactly warranted, the trilogy is something that can be set up later on. Although some might argue that Pena might have to win another fight before she gets a title shot again.

The reactions of the fans, some might argue, were quite untoward. But considering the outcome of the second fight many might consider that it was well within the rights of the fans to call out on the Venezuelan Vixen.
