Geoff Neal has finally overcome his health issues and secured a fight for 2020. The #11 ranked UFC welterweight has been trying to get back in the Octagon for over a year. Now fight fans will see him fight Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson next month.

He couldn’t have asked or wished for a tougher opponent on his comeback but he is excited and looking forward to testing himself out. In a chat with James Lynch of Line Movement, ‘Handz of Steel’ said, “I’m super excited. I’ve had this year’s layoff, and I was unsure of which direction I was going to go in my career like nobody wanted to fight me.”

Neal continued, “I tried a lot before to get these fights. I don’t have a lot of fans, you know what I mean, a lot of people that know who I am. So for Wonderboy to take this fight, I’m super excited about it.”

“It couldn’t be a better match. He’s the best striker in the division until I fight him. Like right now he is the best striker in the division so I’m excited to test myself against him.”

What would a win mean for Geoff Neal?

Neal will fight a contender who sits six spots above him in the welterweight rankings. He is unbeaten in the UFC and will look to maintain his record upon his return to the cage. His resume holds the heads of great fighters like Belal Muhammad, Niko Price, and Mike Perry.

Geoff like his nickname does have ‘hands of steel’ with his last two wins being devastating finishes. ‘Handz of Steel’ put the beating on Mike Perry in his last fight in the very first round. Neal landed a kick to Perry’s dome and finished the fight with some heavy punches. By accomplishing this, Geoff became the first person to finish ‘Platinum’.

He will be looking to do the same against ‘Wonderboy’ as he knows a win here will propel him into the top 10 of the division. Do you think Neal can impress upon his return? Or would Thompson be a bridge too far for the Dana White’s Contender Series graduate?
