The UFC is one of the biggest MMA promotions in the fight scene around the world. Much of it is due to the fact that the UFC has some of the best and most entertaining fighters in every weight division. The Middleweight division of the UFC has always been one of the most followed divisions. With former greats like Rich Franklin, Anderson Silva, and Michael Bisping competing, the Middleweight division has always been and still is one of the best attractions for the UFC audience.

The Middleweight fans were also enthralled a few years back due to a backstage brawl that broke out between the ‘BMF’ Jorge Masvidal and Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards. Since then, Edwards has glided on his way to becoming the ‘UFC Middleweight Champion’. Masvidal has also been trying to work out a ‘title shot’ by appearing in public interviews and taunting Edwards to “step up to the plate” and accept the fight with him.

Jorge Masvidal mocked Leon Edwards calling him cold feet

Previously, Masvidal had an interview with ‘MMAFighting.com’. He went on to describe how Leon’s, you know, little cold feet”. He also went on to imply that Edwards was probably afraid of losing if he accepted the fight with Masvidal.

He also put up the fans’ perspective as he said, “Every time I talk to a reporter or anybody, we’re just talking about this, why they aren’t talking about someone else? They’re always talking about me against Leon in England,“. He tried to provide an idea of how much the fans wanted this fight and also mentioned that Edwards was “kind of ignoring,” his “phone calls.”

He also urged Edwards to man up and accept this fight, saying, “Leon, f*ckin’ step up to the plate bro. You begged and cried and did all that bulls**t when I was fighting for that title. Now you got that belt, let’s go”.

He also went on to mock Edwards’ inactivity, saying, “I don’t know if he’s drinking tea and eating fish and chips and I don’t know bro”.

Edwards wanted Masvidal to beg for the title shot

Edwards fired back at Masvidal with a tweet of his own. He chose to reply to the interview of Masvidal posted on the Twitter page of ‘MMAFighting.com’ tweeting, “refer to me as ‘Mr Edwards’ or ‘Sir’ and get on your knees and beg and I may consider it”. It was apparent from his tweets that he wasn’t falling for Masvidal’s taunts.

Evidently, Edwards wasn’t done with the heated backstage bout which took place 3 years ago. Masvidal had landed a three-punch combo on Edwards, which had him cut open right under his left eye.

Understandably, he was trying to humble the ‘BMF’, Masvidal some more, along with a mockery of his fighter spirit.

Do you want Leon Edwards to accept the fight right now? Or do you want to see Masvidal a bit more humbled by Edwards?

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
