History almost repeated itself when Khamzat Chimaev evaded Burns’s kick towards him when he was on the floor. A knee strike on a downed opponent is a major rule in the sport of MMA. Petr Yan lost his belt to Aljamain Sterling during UFC 259 when he landed an illegal knee to the head when the latter was down.

As you can see, ‘Durinho‘ was lucky that his knee just missed Chimaev by a split second. If the strike landed, Burns would’ve been disqualified immediately. This form of disqualification has become famous since the first fight between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling.

Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns going the distance

Although Durinho lost the fight, it was very close. The Brazilian showcased heart and skill on a level unparalleled. Despite his reach and height disadvantage, he managed to rock the avalanche of a Russian in a spectacular scrap fest. This goes to prove that he remains one of the best in the welterweight division, without a doubt.

Not having fought the likes of Colby Covington yet, his options are still fresh, and maybe on the road to a title shot if he scores dominant performances in the division.
