Things are not going well for Former MMA fighter-turned-actor Gina Carano. The 41-year-old suffered a setback in her Hollywood career after getting fired from ‘The Mandalorian‘ TV series. Following her dismissal, Carano sued Lucasfilm, and its parent company, the Walt Disney Co. for removing her from the show. Meanwhile, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has joined hands with the actor. Moreover, he has promised to pay for Carano’s lawsuit as well.

Gina Carano had a relatively short career in MMA compared to some of the other female fighters in the sport. She fought from 2006 to 2009 and had a 7-fight undefeated streak. However, Carano did not remain undefeated as she suffered her only career loss to Cris Cyborg. Primarily fighting under the Strikeforce banner, Carano decided not to fight in the UFC after they acquired the former promotion. Nevertheless, she found great success in her Hollywood career. But now, Carano hit a roadblock in her acting career after getting dismissed from the ‘Star Wars’ spinoff series.

The former MMA fighter garnered recognition for portraying the character of ‘Cara Dune‘ in the highly popular ‘The Mandalorian’ TV series. However, after two seasons, Lucasfilm decided to remove her from the cast due to some of the things Gina Carano had said. Her strong political views on social media did not sit well with the showrunners. Even her agency, UTA, dropped her. This led to the 41-year-old filing a lawsuit against Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Co. Carano posted a lengthy tweet, where she explained what led to her firing. She stated, “The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time.”

The showrunners are yet to file a response to the lawsuit. Nevertheless, they have made it clear in a statement that Gina Carano’s social media posts were the reason for her dismissal from ‘The Mandalorian’. Meanwhile, the former MMA fighter has received the support of many people, including the owner of Twitter (X), Elon Musk.

Elon Musk is funding Carano’s lawsuit

Elon Musk’s reason for buying Twitter (X) was to restore free speech. Furthermore, in 2023, the billionaire made a promise to help those people who had faced discrimination in employment for the things they posted on his social media platform. This sentiment was doubled down by Twitter’s (X) head of business operations, Joe Bennaroch, via ‘XNews‘. He stated, “As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination.”
