Alexander Volkanovski is Max Holloway‘s kryptonite. Considered by many to be one of the best UFC fighters ever, Hollow has not lost a fight at featherweight in over ten years, except to one man- ‘The Great’ Volkanovski.

The Australian has trounced Holloway in all three of their encounters since 2019, though many argue the Hawaiian was robbed of a victory on the judges’ scorecard in their second fight. And former middleweight champion Michael Bisping thinks Holloway may well be on his way to another title shot against ‘Volk’.

On his YouTube channel, Bisping was discussing Max Holloway’s impressive third-round KO of The Korean Zombie in the latter’s last UFC fight at UFC Fight Night in Singapore last week. He began by recognizing Holloway as one of the greatest UFC fighters and was excited to see his next moves. Bisping thought the former featherweight champion was fired up because of the devastating wildfire in his native Hawaii.

“I just have so much admiration and so much respect for Max Holloway. He’s absolutely one of the best that’s ever done it. I just look forward to seeing what he’s going to do next. He’s kind of, he’s in a weird spot especially… when you consider what was going on in Hawaii right now, you know. Because I saw a different version of Max, you know… He was getting quite emotional at the media day. He went out and he represented his people to the followers like he always does,” he told co-host Anthony Smith.

Bisping felt that if Holloway, who is already ranked #1 in the division and had already beaten other contenders, went on to win a few fights, he would make a compelling case for another shot at the featherweight crown. He predicted that Volkanovski, being the fighter and man he is, might be the one to offer it to him if Holloway can win his next few fights emphatically.

“If Volk’s next fight is [Ilia] Topuria, which it should be, and he beats Topuria. [And] in the meantime Holloway beats one, two more people I think even Volkanovski would say, listen, the man deserves a fourth shot, it’s as simple as that… Let’s just say he goes on a four or five-win streak it wouldn’t surprise me if Volk was the one to say, ‘you know what, give it to him again,” he said.

But, UFC boss Dana White has already said that he is not interested in making another match between Holloway and ‘Volk’, which is a shame. ‘Blessed’ is at worst the second-best fighter at featherweight behind only the juggernaut that is ‘Alexander The Great’. And though he has lost all three of their fights, Holloway has the capacity, skills, and adeptness to win a fourth. This is all the more reason for fans to keep an eye on the UFC featherweight division in the months to come.
