UFC 312 witnessed the Georgian takeover as Aleksandre Topuria defeated the formerly undefeated Colby Thicknesse via a unanimous decision. Topuria, unlike his younger brother Ilia Topuria, seemed to crave for the fight experience. He controlled the fight till the very end. Well, he arguably had the potential to even go for a finish a few times. However, with a long gap in his fighting career, the craving for the rush seemed a bit bigger. And that control and power made sure that the fighting community had high hopes for Topuria.

All three judges, Mike Bell, Ben Cartlidge, and Charlie Keech, scored the bout 30-27 in favor of the Georgian bantamweight star. The kind of wrestling he showcased at the bout? Phenomenal. No wonder he began training in the realm of grappling when he was 5 years old. But this has also painted a humongous target on Topuria’s back.

Meanwhile, Alexander Volkanovski, ‘El Matador’s opponent and Thicknesse’s training partner, was left in utter disappointment. Thicknesse went out of gas within the second round, and Topuria’s elite grappling further pushed the Australian bantamweight contender. Nevertheless, not all is lost for the Aussie. It’s just one loss against his 7 phenomenal wins as a professional mixed martial artist.

Well, Merab Dvalishvili was also pretty happy with the outcome of the bout. In the end, the two were seen dancing and celebrating the big win. As they say, it’s not a win just for Topuria. It’s a win for all Georgians. And despite the kind of competition he’d get, the bantamweight champ decided to celebrate. Let’s take a look at what the fight fans had to say about Topuria’s big win.

They will both rule ufc as much as they want.” One more fan added, “Controlled every second of the fight. Anyone hating doesn’t know fighting.”

When Thicknesse’s team claimed that Topuria was fatigued, it seemed to tick the fight fans off. A fan quoted, “Why did colbys team say that aleksandre was fatigued? Total opposite 😂.” But Topuria’s slow output was also prominent. A fan commented, “He looked solid and well rounded, he just has a slow start due to his low output.” A few others commented, “Topuria went easy on him. Look like he just wanted the minutes for experience.”
