Former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill nearly came to blows with Alex Pereira at the UFC Performance Institute last month. Hill has been carrying a grudge since UFC 300, believing Pereira ‘cheated’ during their title fight. Since losing the belt, Hill has been pushing hard for a rematch, taking shots at Pereira on social media to stir the pot and make the fight happen.

The former champion found a lot of support from former UFC champion Michael Bisping. He credited ‘Sweet Dreams’ for not getting into a fight with him for free. But what exactly did he mean with his comments? In a recent interview, he cleared the air surrounding the recent situation.

When Hill spotted Pereira and his team training at the PI, he approached the champion, telling him not to “run off” to heavyweight because he planned to reclaim the light heavyweight title. Pereira, known for letting his actions speak over words, tossed a pair of gloves at Hill, signaling him to step into the cage right then and there. Hill declined, saying he wouldn’t fight “for free.” The exchange didn’t sit well with fans and fighters, with many labeling Hill’s refusal as a sign of weakness.

Alex Pereira later pointed out that he didn’t even realize Jamahal Hill approached him to exchange words during his training at the Performance Institute. According to Pereira, it was the first time anyone had confronted him like that. Still, he shrugged it off, seeing it as just another part of the fight game. Michael Johnson during a recent interview took the side of  ‘Poatan’ which did not sit well with the former champion.

Jamahal Hill likely didn’t anticipate the fallout from his confrontation with Alex Pereira at the UFC Performance Institute. Lightweight veteran Michael Johnson sided with Pereira, taking a jab at Hill’s actions. Unsurprisingly, Hill wasn’t pleased and fired back at Johnson, calling him out publicly. The exchange added more fuel to the already heated situation. Michael Johnson criticized Jamahal Hill for not backing up his words when he approached Alex Pereira at the UFC Performance Institute and termed it as “clown sh*t.” 

Johnson said, “Why even go over there and say anything if you’re not prepared to do anything? It made no sense. And he’s lucky Alex didn’t have a mindset like somebody like me or you, because honestly, he should have got hit.” The former light heavyweight champion was clearly upset by Michael Johnson’s comments and didn’t hold back in responding. He reminded Johnson of his position in the UFC rankings, taking a shot at his career and making it clear he wasn’t intimidated by the lightweight veteran’s criticism.
