Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal revealed how he tried to fight his ex-friend Colby Covington in public in an old interview with Ariel Helwani.

The rivalry between the UFC welterweight combatants Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington is one of the most vicious rivalries in the history of the promotion. However, both the men were close friends and used to live together during the start of their careers.

But as things fell apart, they became enemies and have never left a chance to take a dig at one another. In an interview with Ariel Helwani in April 2021, ‘Gamebred’ had revealed the root of their animosity and also that he tried to hit ‘Chaos’ in public.

Masvidal said, “Colby is that one person that and I always say this wherever I see him. It’s a free pay-per-view right there, you know, and he knows that. That’s why he used to make videos like this guy is so unprofessional. He tried to fight me in the street.”

“Because I got kicked out of the gym for trying to assault him one time. And then I used to go to the spots that he used to the spots he used to frequent a lot and got the police called on me.”

“And I know a lot of people think, man, you are an idiot. You are a professional fighter. Why would you do that? Because I f**king feel like and nobody tells me what to do.”

Even though both the welterweight combatants called out to each other many times, their fight was never finalized by the UFC. However, the wait is over now and the much-awaited grudge match will happen this year.

Jorge Masvidal vs Colby Covington for UFC 272

The old rivalry between ‘Chaos’ and ‘Gamebred’ will finally see the light of the UFC cage. Both the welterweight combatants are set to take on each other inside the octagon on 5th March 2022.

The much-awaited grudge match is set to headline UFC 272 event at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Both the fighters are coming off a loss in their previous bouts.

‘Chaos’ lost his second title fight against the champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 268. On the other hand, ‘Gamebred’ is currently on a two-fight skid. Both his losses came against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in the title fight.

Fans can expect heavy fireworks from the fight considering the rivalry between the men. Also, it is going to be one of the best fights of the year, as Covington and Masvidal are two of the best fighters from the division.
