After his impressive vic͏tory against Charles Oliveira ͏at UFC͏ ͏300, Tsaruk͏yan became the number one title ͏co͏ntend͏er and͏ w͏as ͏slated to clash͏ with Islam ͏Makhac͏hev͏ at the͏ end of this year. H͏o͏wever͏, Makhac͏hev sustained an injury wh͏ile defen͏ding his͏ titl͏e͏ again͏st Dustin͏ Poirier at ͏U͏FC 302 in͏ June͏, delaying the fig͏ht. Islam Makhachev’s return is yet to be ascertained by Team Khabib and Arman Tsarukyan appears to not be in the mood to wait for anyone.

While in conversation with the ‘MMAJunkie’, the number one contender of the lightweight division emphasized his thoughts on waiting any further for the title shot,

“Yeah, we were supposed to fight here and then in December, but now they told me the beginning of next year. So, I’m getting ready, and hopefully, it’s going to be in January or February. And yeah, it’s going to be a title fight for sure. I wish I could fight this weekend because, you know, I don’t want to waste my time and wait, since I only fought once this year.”

He further added, “I would prefer to fight now, then rest, and defend my title next year. We’ll see, we’ll see. But, I’ve been training since June, because they told me October. I started my training camp in June, and I’ve kept training until now. So, when I fight, I might take a little bit of rest.”  When Arman Tsarukyan learned about Makhachev’s injury, he urged Dana White to give him a fight at the end of the year. However, the UFC CEO seems to want him to wait for the super fight. The Armenian fighter is riding a four-fight winning streak, while on the other hand, Islam Makhachev is riding a fourteen-fight winning streak.

Despite the huge gap, Arman Tsarukyan believes that he has what it takes to defeat the Dagestani. Interestingly, when the host asked him what he would do after clinching the belt, the Armenian emphasized that he would be ready to face him again, “I don’t know, so for me it doesn’t matter. I can fight him three or four times. I just need the title. After the title, I can tell what I’m going to do. My goal is just to win a title, and after that, I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

Well, in addition to him challenging Islam Makhachev at the ‘MMAJunkie’ interview, Arman Tsarukyan emphasized that the Dagetsani doesn’t deserve to be the number one pound-for-pound fighter.

Arman Tsarukyan ignites beef with Islam Makhachev by questioning his P4P status

In the same conversation with ‘MMAJunkie’, Tsarukyan stated, “No, he doesn’t deserve it. I agree the No. 1 pound-for-pound is Jon Jones because he’s a legend. He’s still fighting. We’ll see. Next month he’s fighting and if he beats Stipe Miocic, he’s got to be No. 1 pound-for-pound. Then when he retires, of course it’s Islam.”

Jon Jones will be defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at the Madison Square Garden at UFC 309 and this would be his first title defense after clinching the belt from Ciryl Gane. A victory for Jones at the event might increase his rankings way up further but it must be noted that he will be retiring after the bout. Regardless, what’s your take on the hubbub?
