UFC featherweight fighter Nathaniel Wood was set to take on Lerone Murphy at UFC 286 on March 18. However, the former had to withdraw from the fight following a gruesome injury he suffered while training. The photos and CCTV footage of ‘The Prospect’ getting injured have gone viral on social media.

UFC 286 will again be an international UFC event to be held in London, United Kingdom. The Pay-per-view will emanate straight from the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena. The event will be headlined by the rematch between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards for the welterweight title. UFC 286 will also feature the fight between Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev as the co-main event. However, Lerone Murphy might have to find a replacement.

Nathaniel Wood shared the CCTV video on Twitter and captioned it: “That takedown attempt cost me a fortune.” The video shows Wood going for a takedown. But he ended up hitting his leg on the edge of the mat. The consequences were very dire.

Nathaniel Wood, unfortunately, sliced his knee during that training session. The former Cage Warriors bantamweight champion had won both of his fights after moving up to the featherweight division in the UFC. He shared some pictures displaying the result of his injury. He wrote: “Can’t catch a break in this game.”

‘The Prospect’ also provided an explanation to the MMA fans on social media. In a separate Twitter post, his knee got cut due to a wooden object. He wrote: “For those asking I unfortunately sliced my knee on some wooden trim on the outside of the mats going for a takedown.” Wood further went on to share a post on Instagram as well.

Wood admitted to the dire situation of his right leg and announced that he will not be fighting in London. The 29-year-old mentioned that it was a “real accident” and wrote: “A freak accident landing on wooden trim in wrestling practice.” He apologized to the fans who wanted to see him fight. ‘The Prospect’ also said that he was having a hard time bending his knee.

Lerone Murphy hasn’t fought inside the octagon since his TKO loss at UFC 267 against Makwan Amirkhani. There has been no news of any new opponent for ‘The Miracle’ as of now. However, Nathaniel Wood’s injury has surely halted his winning omentum. We will have to see how the UFC reacts to this setback.
