TJ Dillashaw has retired from the UFC and the sport of MMA, but it appears that the toll he has taken over the years of fighting and training is still haunting him. In his career spanning over a decade, the fighter has undergone a whopping eleven surgeries, with the most recent being a shoulder surgery.

MMA is undoubtedly an exciting sport, but along with the excitement it brings to the table, no one can deny the sheer punishment fighters need to endure to put on a performance. While some of the effects of such hard work are short-term, some can be long-lasting, and TJ Dillashaw‘s condition is definitely a case of the latter.

Recently, the former UFC bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw, underwent shoulder surgery under the guidance of renowned shoulder specialist Dr. Itamura. Following the surgery, Dillashaw shared his experience with the fans on Instagram. Along with his post-surgery pictures, the fighter wrote: “This was by far my most extensive surgery, and I pray my last. But following in hazardous Hal’s footsteps, it probably won’t be my last. I sought out the best shoulder specialist, Dr. Itamura, and he was very happy with the surgery. Now it’s my turn for the healing process. I will be stuck in this gunslinger torture device (brace) for 6 weeks.”

In the picture, the fighter’s hands could be seen covered in green while he rests in a hospital attire. A professional competitor since 2010, this was his eleventh surgery in his decorated but injury-ridden career. During his last octagon appearance against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 280, Dillashaw was seen struggling with his injured shoulder. And it looks like the fighter has gone under the knife once again to address the issue. A former NCAA wrestler, TJ Dillashaw captured the UFC Bantamweight Gold from Renan Barao in 2015.

Although he would drop the title in the very next match, Dillashaw would capture it again in 2018. Following his first title defense of his second reign, the former Team Alpha Male member would move down to flyweight for his double champ aspiration. But this move proved to be disastrous as he not only lost his debut against Henry Cejudo but was also suspended after testing positive for EPO. Nevertheless, the fighter would make a successful comeback against Cory Sandhagen in 2021 but would ultimately retire after losing to the champion Sterling in his last UFC bout.
