His caliber surpasses that of anyone in the current or past UFC roster, which is why he is often referred to as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). However, the current heavyweight champion now faces a challenging situation as ‘Bones’ has sustained a severe injury, which may potentially keep him out of the UFC for at least six months.

Daniel Cormier questions Jon Jones’s injury

UFC CEO Dana White broke the news to the combat community. White took to Instagram to clarify the news surrounding Jon Jones’s withdrawal. The video showcased Jones having a training session with his partner and suddenly while wrestling he tore his pectoral muscles.

The aftermath of his injury canceled his fight against Stipe Miocic and replaced it with Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich. Despite everything, Daniel Cormier seems to have his own set of doubts regarding the injury. The former dual weight champion took to his YouTube channel to explain why he finds Jones’s injury intriguing.

“It’s not like the guy was doing anything wrong. It’s just unfortunate that the body broke down. Here’s where I wonder in regards to the injury, because I saw the video, and that looks like a very common wrestling situation. I’ve been in that situation a thousand times.” Said Daniel Cormier.

He further added ” I see my kids wrestling in that situation every single day. I have never seen someone almost tear the pec; it looks like he might have torn the pec in a pretty basic wrestling situation. Right, your arm gets extended, and things can happen. Shoulders sure pop a shoulder, among other things like that. But I haven’t really seen the pectoral muscle tear as many times as you would see some of these other injuries.”  ‘DC’ Came to the conclusion that Jones might be doing this to stay away from fighting and prepare more such that his body could adapt to the new heavyweight status.

Daniel Cormier thinks Jon Jones needs some time to settle into the heavyweight division

Upon further analysis of the video Daniel Cormier came to the conclusion that it is kind of strange for anyone to rip apart their pectoral muscles while wrestling. He emphasizes that Jones might have done it on purpose, The former dual-weight champion further adds, “I think, more than anything, this could be related to the different approach to this one. You can take time to do whatever it is you want to do. Jones said he was bulking; he was getting prepared to become a heavyweight.”

He further added, ” So, he gained all this weight and he trained and he fought Zogan, and he fought him for about two minutes. Now, though, he recognizes the challenge ahead of him. So he figured, “I’ve got to put in more work. I’ve got to take this new body, and I’ve got to teach this new body to train like the 205-pound body because I know the challenge is so big.” Well, your body’s not prepared for that. Your body’s not ready for that type of workload if you haven’t been doing it.”
