Dricus du Plessis registered the biggest victory of his career after defeating former champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. In an impressive outing, the South African star went in as the underdog. However, he won the fight by registering a clobbering TKO and will now challenge Israel Adesanya for the middleweight championship.
Following the bout against ‘The Reaper’, du Plessis and Adesanya faced off against each other in a moment that will go down in infamy. Israel Adesanya was fired up as he got inside the Octagon and started laying repeated slurs on ‘Stillknocks’. However, it didn’t sit well with du Plessis. He sounded off on the middleweight champion in the post-fight press conference.

Dricus du Plessis sounds off on Israel Adesanya
The South African star did not take too kindly to Adesanya’s antics after his fight. He claimed that the Nigerian-born Kiwi fighter diminished his status as a champion by behaving like a clown. He said, “He’s behaving like a clown in there. That’s not how a champion behaves.” Furthermore, he even claimed that Adesanya was acting more like a child than a man. “That’s not how a man behaves. He’s behaving like a child,” said the 29-year-old fighter.
‘Stillknocks’ spoke about how people look up to Adesanya due to the position he’s in. He claims that this kind of behavior sends a wrong message to his fans. The South African star added, “Conduct yourself like a champion. These people [are] looking up to you and you’re behaving like that.”
Given that Israel Adesanya is one of the biggest draws in the promotion, he is often known for such behavior to sell tickets and get the fans excited about his fights. However, Dricus du Plessis doesn’t like that approach. He wants to sell tickets with his own approach. “If that sells tickets, good for him. I’ll sell tickets my way. I am a gentleman, I am a man and I’ll behave like a man,” said the middleweight title contender. Let us see what the fans had to say about his comments.
