Makhachev’s manager Abdelaziz in an interview said “He’s a big guy. He cut a lot of weight and if he want to go to become welterweight at one day, I think he can beat Colby, he can beat Masvidal. He can beat any of these guys right now.”

Ali Abdelaziz eyes the Lightweight Championship for Islam Makhachev, first.

Makhachev is yet to claim the Lightweight belt. Nurmagomedov’s close friend was supposed to fight Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night. But because of Dariush’s leg injury, the Dagestani lightweight clashed with Bobby Green and won the fight via TKO in the first round itself.

Abdelaziz would want double champ status, but before that, he feels Makhachev has to reign over his present division. “At the end of the day, he have to become a lightweight first champion and there’s a lot of savage in this division you have Beneil Dariush, you have Justin Gaethje you have Charles Oliveira,” he said in the interview.

The fight ultimately didn’t come together, and dos Anjos defeated Renato Moicano instead. Dana White told the media that it was Makhachev who turned down the fight initially.

Overall, Makhachev has won 11 out of his 12 fights in the octagon. Although Makhachev might enter and go for gold in the welterweight division one day, for now, his true test stands in his current division.
