Recently, Deiveson Figueiredo expressed his interest in moving up a weight class. While talking about the same with The Schmo, Cejudo jokingly warned the Brazilian champion.
‘Deus da Guerra’ recently regained his UFC title with the help of ‘The Messenger’ at UFC 270. The latter trained him at the Fight Ready gym in Arizona for one of the biggest battles of his career. Figueiredo defeated the former champion, Brandon Moreno, in the trilogy bout to regain his title. However, now he wants to move up to 135 lbs.
“Oh no, I think he don’t wanna do that man. He doesn’t want the wrath of Triple C,” Cejudo jokingly said. However, later Triple C explained that he himself encouraged the Brazilian to move up as he has proved enough.
“But not really Schmo, I have encouraged Davis (Deiveson Figueiredo) to eventually go up,” Cejudo added.
“I think he is a big boy. He’d fit into 135 pounds really good. I just think he needs to finish what he started. I think he needs to defend his belt. And I think he has maybe a couple to a few fights left at 125 pounds to eventually go to 135 pounds,” Cejudo further stated.

“So I welcome that. I think Deiveson needs to be happy. I think he has proven; he is a two-time flyweight world champion. I think he eventually wants to go up to 135 pounds and strike gold again. But I think by that time I will be the 145 pounds champ.” Cejudo concluded.
Why is Deiveson Figueiredo moving up to the flyweight division?
‘Deus da Guerra’ defeated his arch-rival, Brandon Moreno, via a unanimous decision to win the flyweight title for the second time in his UFC career. Later, there were rumors about the fourth fight between them.

However, Figueiredo announced an injury that will keep him away from fighting until the end of 2022. Hence, the UFC had to take another route. So they set up an interim title fight between Moreno and Kai Kara-France.

However, the bantamweight champion didn’t like the idea. This move of the UFC disappointed him, and he also criticized the interim title fight, calling it a ‘plastic belt.’
