Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping recently recalled one of the most gruesome injuries of his UFC career.
Michael Bisping is one of the most prominent names in the UFC. During his prime, he has fought many notable names inside the UFC octagon. ‘The Count’ also held the UFC middleweight title in 2016.
The British fighter defended his title once and later lost it against Georges St-Pierre in his second title defense at UFC 217. Even though ‘The Count’ lost the fight, it was one of the most iconic fights in UFC history.

However, the Englishman suffered a horrible injury before the fight. ‘The Count’ appeared in an interview with Submission Radio today and talked about the injury before the iconic fight.
He said, “I had a great training camp but on the last day of my camp, Dean Amasinger. I shouldn’t have done a sparring session a week out. So I did five rounds with a number of guys and in the last round, Dean, like his life, depended on it.”

He added, “To get a takedown, and he landed on top of me and I just hear a crack. And I just screamed at the top of my voice because I knew what it was. My ribs were done.”
Michael Bisping fought Georges St-Pierre despite the injury
Further in the interview, Bisping revealed that he was near the end of his career. Hence, he didn’t want to pull out of such a big fight. So he competed against ‘Rush’ even after the injury.
Bisping continued, “So I said I am not gonna pull out of the fight, Doc. There is no chance I’m gonna pull out the fight. So we came up with a plan. He gave me a needle full of lidocaine. And he said what you can do is with the lidocaine you can inject into your cartilage and it will numb the pain. It won’t fix it. But you won’t feel the pain.”

According to Bisping, his doctor told him to take a lidocaine injection before the fight, which could have numbed the pain for 45 minutes. However, Bisping claimed he was not someone who cheats, so he avoided the injection.

He said, “Saturday night we are in Madison Square Garden. Freddie Roach is watching me have my hands wrapped and all the rest of it. And I am like now comes the time I am gonna have to go and inject myself with the lidocaine. And I went to the toilet and I am like what am I doing no! This is crazy, and I threw that away. “
