“He Get the Punch”- Khamzat Chimaev Downplays Jon Jones Amidst Recent Troubles

There is no other fighter in the UFC right now who is as exciting as the welterweight prospect, Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev went viral after his back-to-back victories in the UFC, taking in no damage at all. After his victory over Li Jingliang at UFC 267, he has become a fan favorite. 

His wrestling abilities are one of the most superior in the competition, and he has used them to his advantage in his MMA career. The fighter stands 10-0 as of March 2022. 

In a recent video that has gone viral online, Khamzat Chimaev relates himself to UFC legends such as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jon Jones. He downplays Jones’ first few UFC fights and compares them to his own.

‘Borz’ said,” Who did like go in the cage, 10 fights 10 finishes. All the guys say like, ‘oh he didn’t fight this guy… he didn’t fight that guy.’ But the guy, who’s the best guy? Jon Jones. His first 4 fights In the UFC, he get the punch. I didn’t get the punch. We don’t say his first fights he didn’t get the best ones.”

“The guys you know like super good. Nobody, Conor [McGregor] didn’t get that crazy good guys in his first fights. Nobody. Khabib didn’t get crazy good guys. I just need the time. If everything is going good, if you train hard, if you believe in that brother when it comes, your energy, they feel your energy,” added the Chechen fighter.

What’s next for Khamzat Chimaev?

Khamzat Chimaev will make his return to the UFC octagon on the 9th of April at UFC 273. The Swedish fighter will face off against Gilbert Burns at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Burns is currently ranked second in the UFC’s welterweight contender rankings. A dominant win for Chimaev at UFC 273 could very possibly land him a shot at the title against the defending champion, Kamaru Usman.
