Julianna Pena shook the world as she defeated Amanda Nunes to win the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 269. Peña’s submission victory over Nunes had the entire T-Mobile Arena thrilled. Her former partner Michael Chiesa couldn’t keep his excitement in check and attempted to join her in the octagon to celebrate her victory.

However, according to reports, the night didn’t turn out well for Chiesa, as he injured himself while trying to get into the octagon. According to Dana White, “He had a little too much to drink this evening. When she won, he freaked out and tried to jump into the octagon and fell down on his face, cut his eye and busted his eye open, then was arguing with the police that he needed to get into the octagon and be with her, because that’s his teammate.”

“[The police] dragged him out, got him outside, and calmed him down in the back, and I went back and talked to him for a minute, and we’re all good.”

Julianna shocked the world after her second-round submission win over Nunes. Fans expected Nunes to walk away with an easy win like she usually does. But Julianna definitely humbled the former double champion with her performance.

Michael Chiesa and Peña have trained under the Sik-Jitsu Mixed Martial Arts school in Washington for many years. The two are good friends who have frequently expressed their support for one another.

What’s next for Michael Chiesa?

Chiesa currently stands ninth in the UFC’s welterweight rankings. The ‘Maverick’ had his most recent UFC appearance last month against the unbeaten fighter, Sean Brady. The fighter suffered a unanimous decision loss to Brady at UFC Vegas 43.

After losing to Sean Brady at UFC Vegas 43, Chiesa needs to figure out how he’ll win his next bout. If he suffers another loss in a row, UFC may remove him from the welterweight rankings. A very possible opponent for the ‘Maverick’ could be ‘The Leech’, Li Jingliang. Both fighters lost their previous bouts fought around the same time as well.
