Islam Makhachev has become the talk of the town after his dominating victory over Thiago Moises. Now the young Dagestani fighter is eager to get his hands on a top-ranked lightweight. After his victory over Moises, Makhachev called out a lot of names, one of them being Michael Chandler.

In the latest interview with TheMacLife, ‘Iron’ opened up about Islam Makhachev. Chandler said, “No question, the guy is good, but he still hasn’t beaten anybody inside the top ten. Drew Dober wasn’t ranked, Tiago Moises was ranked fourteen.

“He hasn’t beaten anybody inside the top ten I don’t think he should start with me at number four. There’s number ten, there’s number eight, there’s number seven, there’s number six. He essentially named everybody.”

Michael Chandler continues, “He named ‘RDA’ he named Tony Ferguson he named Beneil Dariush he named me. That’s four or five guys inside the top ten beside him and Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier and Conor.

“He is good there’s no doubt the guy is good. But at this point in time, I am number four, so I don’t see myself taking a fight against number nine.”

Will Michael Chandler face Islam Makhachev?

Fight fans are aware that Michael Chandler is pushing for a fight against the #2 ranked lightweight Justin Gaethje. That is why Chandler is lukewarm in his response after the call out for Makhachev.

Now, according to the latest lightweight rankings released by the UFC, Islam Makhachev has ramped up to the #5 spot. This means Makhachev is only one spot behind ‘Iron’.

Both Justin Gaethje and Islam Makhachev are managed by the same manager. So if for some reason Gaethje doesn’t accept the fight with ‘Iron’, then we could see the Dagestani facing Chandler in his next bout.
