Conor McGregor has unfortunately entered a short list of UFC fighters who have suffered a broken leg during a fight. Corey Hill, Anderson Silva, and Chris Weidman are the other members on the list. ‘The Notorious’ fractured the tibia and fibula of his left leg in the final seconds of round one against Dustin Poirier at UFC264.

Now, after a successful surgery, ‘The Notorious’ is eager to step back inside the proving ground. But according to reports, McGregor is suspended till January 7, 2022. Thus, McGregor fans will have to wait for a while to see their favorite fighter back in action. So when McGregor returns, who should he fight? UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping had this same conversation on his podcast where he gave his best pick for the Irishman.

‘The Count’ said, “There’s one name on there that jumps off and slaps me in the face as the next opponent… Tony Ferguson, that’s the perfect match-up, because listen, I respect Tony Ferguson, but you gotta be honest. He is kind of on the slide. He could turn it around and come back, but I would favor McGregor in that matchup all day.”

Michael Bisping continues, “He is way too slick with his strike, and Tony’s kind of sloppy and relies on his chin. That’s the perfect fight for Conor to come back, beat Tony Ferguson, then he beats the bogeyman. Tony Ferguson has tremendous following and is known for being super super tough. Beats Tony Ferguson gets his mojo back then fights Dustin Poirier.”

According to Michael Bisping, Tony Ferguson is the best pick for the Irishman. ‘El Cucuy’ is ranked in the top five lightweights and has not been at his very best since 2020. Ferguson is a popular figure among hardcore MMA fans and also can pull off good PPV numbers. Therefore, ‘The Count’ believes ‘The Notorious’ should test his metal against Ferguson before actually fighting Dustin Poirier for the fourth time.

Dustin Poirier is at the peak of the mountain in the lightweight division. And as McGregor will be out of action for almost half a year, it’s not a wise choice to fight ‘The Diamond’ when he is shining the brightest.
