The UFC’s welterweight division is stacked with some of the most talented fighters in the world. It’s one of the most competitive divisions in the promotion, and it’s incredibly difficult to pick just one fighter to give a title shot to. Recently, Leon Edwards defeated Kamaru Usman to retain his welterweight title, and now the question on everyone’s mind is who’s next in line for a shot at the title.

Colby Covington was the backup fighter for the Edwards vs. Usman fight. Dana White  announced that he will get the next title shot. This statement has caused some mayhem in the welterweight division. Other capable contenders are calling out Dana White and Colby Covington. Belal Muhammad recently took shots at Covington’s controversial past in his last Instagram post.

Belal recently posted a photo on Instagram showing his record against Covington‘s. The 34-year-old secured eight wins in the last 4 years. Covington, on the other hand, has just had 5 fights and managed to win 3 of them. Adding insult to injury, Muhammad added a caption that says “3-3 he lost at papi steak house”.

Belal Muhammad is referring to the controversial attack on Covington by Masivdal, which took place in front of the Papi Steak House, Miami. The attack allegedly left the American with a broken tooth. Fans had various kinds of reactions to this post. Here are some of them –

One fan had some suggestions about Muhammad – “Why don’t you fight Khamzat instead. Prove you deserve that title by knocking him out.”

Another fan criticized both Muhammad and Covington – “U beat bums aside from Luque and Brady. He arguably beat the pfp champ at the time. Shut up. He’s not deserving but ur much less deserving than he is.”

Another one defended Covington – “Colby has fought hall of famers and not nobodies”

Muhammad‘s next match is likely against Shavkat Rakhmonov, who is on a perfect undefeated streak at the UFC. Fans are excited to see this fight, and the winner can make a huge jump in the welterweight rankings. However, Edwards has already denied Colby Covington a title shot. The welterweight champion has stated that does not want to face Covington, and a fight with Masvidal makes more sense for him.

With so many deserving title contenders, it is very difficult for the promotion or the fans to decide who deserves a shot. It will be interesting to see how things play out in the coming months.
