Covington never misses a chance to badmouth a potential opponent. With that being said, the 34-year-old called out Dustin Poirier in high fashion after his dominant win over Jorge Masvidal during UFC 272.

‘El Diamante’ reacted to the callout post-UFC 272 on Twitter. However, a new video has come out where Dustin Poirier reacted to the callout officially during a post-show interview.

When asked about Covington’s words, Poirier had this to say. “Uh, I mean, it’s cute, you know?… People want big fights… He wants a big fight, you know? Obviously, he’s not in line for the title fight. He lost twice to the champ.”

“So he probably needs a few more wins, uh, but I would think you know if you want to get back to that strap, you got to fight welterweight contenders, you know? I don’t know what I’m doing if I’m going to go into Welterweight. If I’m staying at 155, we’ll see. But it is what it is.”

Given their history of back and forth during interviews and on media platforms, it is natural for a person to harbor hate and spew it out on television. Dustin Poirier, however, has once again proven that he is an absolute class act and gave a very composed and respectful comeback.

What’s next for ‘The Diamond’?

‘El Diamante’ has had nothing less than a main character progression in the UFC. His journey towards the belt has been nothing short of heroic. With that being said, however, he’s come close to winning multiple times and fallen short again and again.

His last fight was against current lightweight champ Charles Oliveira, who submitted him with a top mount rear-naked choke. Fighting most of the big names in the lightweight division, things seem a little cloudy for the Louisiana king.
