Tony ‘The Boogeyman’ Ferguson is a scary individual. No matter how his opponent’s skills, Ferguson’s demeanor instills fear in their hearts. It amazed even UFC commentator Joe Rogan when Ferguson refused to tap when he was put in a disturbingly painful armbar by Charles Oliveira. The Boogeyman feels no pain, it seems.
Ferguson had gained a reputation for being one of the most entertaining fighters on the roster. The UFC has pitted him against Bobby Green at UFC 291. Although a feared name across the division, Tony Ferguson lost his last fight to Nate Diaz in 2022. That year, he also lost his fight against Conor McGregor‘s TUF rival Michael Chandler. But there seems to have been another angle to this TUF story that nobody was aware of – until the Boogeyman revealed it.

Tussling with Khabib Nurmagomedov? Tony Ferguson replaced as TUF coach
The UFC has created an intriguing matchup in the form of Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler. However, the Irishman missed his entry into the USADA testing pool, creating a cloud of uncertainty over the matchup. UFC fans saw McGregor return to the Octagon this year but as a coach against his TUF rival, Michael Chandler. Initially, Team Chandler bested Team McGregor during the onset of the series. Team McGregor had lost 7 consecutive matches to Team Chandler at one point in time.
However, that is not what is surprising. In a recent press conference, Tony Ferguson dropped major news about him being considered for coaching this past year’s TUF season with the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov being his rival.

An interviewer at the press conference said that he hadn’t heard Ferguson pick a winner between McGregor and Chandler.
“I hope they knock each other the f**k out.“, answered Ferguson promptly.
He then proceeded to drop major news about the TUF coaching opportunity that got away from him.
“I was supposed to coach on the Ultimate Fighter – I can’t hate on it. I was supposed to coach on the Ultimate Fighter against ‘Khabiber’. He’s off on his world tour still and I guess whatever he had happening he didn’t have enough balls to go and coach his cousin.” said Ferguson, clearly dissatisfied with the way things turned out. He also took a dig at Nurmagomedov with his Justin Bieber wordplay reference.
“So I already knew that there was something major that had to have happened. So around that time, we were in November when I knew that we were going to coach against him. I had meetings with Hunter and so on and so forth and this was…. This was… game dude.“, added Ferguson, who seemed thrilled by the idea of competing against Nurmagomedov as a coach at TUF.
Nurmagomedov retired after his last fight against Justin Gaethje and hasn’t returned to the UFC Octagon since. According to Ferguson, this prevented him from being a coach on the TUF this season. He then proceeded to lambast Nurmagomedov. “I did everything I needed to do in order to get Khabib back, but he ran away like a p***y, so… f**k you Khabib.“.
Nevertheless, the lightweight star aims to improve his fortunes at UFC 291 after enduring five straight losses.
The fall of ‘El Cucuy’ – Tony Ferguson’s five straight losses
Tony Ferguson is easily one of the most accomplished fighters in the Lightweight division. He has tussled with some of the biggest names and walked out a winner. The former division champ was on a 12-win streak when he encountered Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Although Ferguson seemed unstoppable up until that point, Justin Gaethje handed him a beat down and secured a decisive win. After that, Ferguson lost 5 consecutive fights.
