Jon Jones is “excited” for Sean O’Malley
While being asked about whom ‘Bones’ believes is one of the biggest upcoming stars in the UFC, the heavyweight champion mentioned Sean O’Malley. Just like most people in the MMA community, he is siding with ‘Suga.’ Jon Jones said, “Honestly, I may be a little cliche, but I’m with the majority of the community. Jon Jones also stated that O’Malley reminded him a lot of Conor McGregor. This is primarily because he has the look of a UFC star and also due to the 28-year-old’s authentic personality. “I think he has the look. He reminds me a lot of McGregor. You know, he’s really raw and authentic,” said ‘Bones’.
Not only that, the story of ‘Suga’s rise to stardom from being broke is also something that Jones feels people resonate with. He added, “He has that kind of rags-to-riches story that everyone appreciates, especially in this country.” Moreover, the heavyweight champion admitted having predicted a different scenario at UFC 292.
Jones had his money on Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292
While talking about O’Malley’s rise to stardom, Jon Jones admitted to having taken a liking to the Montana native. He believes that O’Malley, 28, still has a lot to learn in the fight game and can make more jumps to the upper echelon of UFC superstars. “I like him a lot. I really want to see how far he can take it. He’s young enough still to really make those leaps and bounds in his game to be around for a long time,” said Jon Jones.

‘Bones’ also mentioned how surprised he was when Sean O’Malley quickly dispatched Aljamain Sterling. He always believes that wrestlers have an upper hand in fights against strikers, and that’s where he predicted ‘Funk Master’ to retain his title. However, that wasn’t the case. Jon Jones now believes that Sean O’Malley has all the tools. “To beat Aljamain like that, I always put my money on the wrestler, and O’Malley, he’s looking like the total package,” said the 36-year-old. He also assured the fans that he would tune in to watch ‘Suga’s fight for the next few years. Jones added, “I am going to be tuning on to his PPVs for the next few years.”
