Combat sports fans of this world have always been in awe of the physically stouter fighters over the smaller ones. UFC enthusiasts, too, aren’t an exception to this. The massive size of UFC Heavyweights like Brock Lesnar and Francis Ngannou has often intimidated the fans. Most of them love the devastating impact created by the shots of a heavyweight. Speaking of which, the name of the noted former UFC Heavyweight, Alistair Overeem, can’t be far behind when the discussion is about sturdily built fighters.

Most UFC and other combat sports fans had known Overeem for his huge and muscular physique for the most part of his career. But they were left in a state of shock after witnessing one of Overeem’s recent snaps from the ‘Rizin 43’ event. The comments section of the post showcased a volley of opinions from the fans about Overeem’s unbelievably reduced physique.

Fans get hilarious over the snap of Alistair Overeem with diminished muscle mass

Most UFC fans already know about the body transformation that fighters go through while preparing for a fight. But the transformation showcased in ‘The Demolition Man’s’ snap was simply something else. The once massively built Overeem looked just like some regular individual of the same height in the recently surfaced photo.

  • “He said he is Vegetarian now so I guess we call him vigour”
  • “Aliladder Undereem”
  • “I showed my bro this pic and he said refereem”

Overeem has given up on Steroids: Fans speculate

But, despite the previous funny comments, some fans opined that this build was actually healthier for ‘The Reem’. Overeem has had a history of failed drug tests which have often plagued his fighting career. They felt that he was off his unhealthy habit of juicing himself up with steroids. Some of those comments read:

  • “He’s back to his pre-horse meat, pre Ubereem form. It’s probably healthier for him honestly.”
  • “Not so fantastic, but much healthier body.”
  • “That is a dream body though. Much better looking the beefed up body”
  • “Still looking fit enough just really lean now”

My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
