Jon Jones is always a constant in discussions about the best export in MMA. However, ‘Bones’ has found himself to be synonymous with performance-enhancing drugs. When fans and MMA figures argue about his status as the greatest of all time, his multiple failed drug tests always pop up in the conversation. Now, fellow UFC fighter Colby Covington has sensationally revealed that Jones wasn’t a stranger to PEDs even when he was in college.

The friendship Colby Covington had with Jon Jones is well-documented and the fans are aware of it. A solid friendship of several years vanished at the end of that period. However, the reason behind their fallout has mostly to do with PEDs. Here’s what ‘Chaos’ brought to light.

‘Chaos’ claimed that negativity surrounding Jon Jones started back when he first began PED usage. A suggestion to get bigger in stature at the end of his college days introduced ‘Bones’ to banned substances. “Honestly, dude, he started using [PEDs] towards the end of his career cuz they were like, ‘Hey, let’s get you to go to heavyweight.’ He was wrestling at 197 [lbs],” Covington stated on The Rush With Maxx Crosby.

The former interim champion further opened up on everything he noticed when Jon Jones was on steroids. Covington said the substances Jon Jones took would slowly make him get bigger and gain a considerable amount of muscle. A change in his physique was not the only thing that happened. Jones would also start behaving erratically. “He felt like he had to do testosterone and growth hormone and start putting on size. He started doing that and just got a chemical imbalance and he just started acting different,” revealed Covington.

Besides that, things could have gone haywire between Colby Covington and Jon Jones. After claiming that Jon Jones was an emotional mess after he started using PEDs, ‘Chaos’ revealed that his former friend would get riled up for the most minute problems and mistakes.

“He started getting emotional about little sh*t like, I leave my shoes out one day, and he [says], ‘Yo, what the f*** Colby? You piece of sh*t, man. Put your f***ing shoes in the right place,'” Colby Covington added. He also claimed that the close ones and the friends Jon Jones made in college were pushed away because of the obvious change in his personality.

Old friends cut their ties with ‘Bones’, claims Covington

Colby Covington claimed that there was a harrowing difference between the Jon Jones he knew at the beginning of his college and the one he came to know by the end of two years. The rapid shift in his personality did not just help create enemies for him, but also some of the people from his inner circle turned away from the heavyweight champion. Covington further stated, “A lot of people who were close to him, he cut them all off and he doesn’t really have any friends that were with him before because he’s completely changed as a person.”

Reconciliation with his college buddy is a huge no for Colby Covington. While he’s already mentioned Jon Jones’s changed demeanor, ‘Chaos’ also doesn’t want to get back with his friend-turned-enemy because he just cannot avoid being in the news for all the wrong reasons. He even cited the recent reports of ‘Bones’ threatening to kill a drug tester. Covington wants no part in such incidents. “It’s not someone I want to surround myself with, obviously, you can see in the media. He’s there every day,” the welterweight star added.

We will have to wait and see the response of Jon Jones to these statements. He’s often active on social media and we don’t see any reason why he won’t clap back at Colby Covington. Meanwhile, let us know your thoughts on Covington’s comments in the comments.
