Gilbert Burns emerged victorious at UFC 287 after a back-and-forth contest saw him grabbing a unanimous decision to win against Jorge Masvidal. However, he believes that ‘Gamebred’ tried to cheat during their fight. ‘Durinho’ has accused Masvidal of applying too much lotion during the post-fight press conference.

Durinho now has two consecutive wins under his belt after his UFC 287 win. Both fighters required a win to get their careers on track, but after the Brazilian’s win, Masvidal decided to step down from the fighting game and announce his retirement from the sport.

Gilbert Burns claims Jorge Masvidal applied a lot of lotion

‘Durinho’ discussed the lotion incident after the fight. He told the media, “100 percent. I do believe. I know those old tricks those guys do.” Burns explained how fighters do that and added, “You know what they do? They wake up on Sunday. They take the first shower and pass a lot of lotion on their body. And the lotion goes like the skin absorbs the lotion and then after three hours you do it again.”

Burns told the media that when someone keeps applying too much lotion, it stays on the skin for a long time. “After you do it again, and then you do it again, the body absorbs. And whenever you start sweating a lot, for sure he [Masvidal] did that too, 100 percent he did… He was so slippery,” said the 5th-ranked welterweight fighter.

‘Durinho’ claims he could have finished the fight if not for the lotion

The Brazilian fighter confidently stated that he could have finished the fight quickly if it had not been for Masvidal being slippery. He lauded the Miami native for his cunning tricks. Burns said, “I gotta give it to this guy. This guy’s got all the tricks.”

He also said that he didn’t feel Masvidal’s power and could have ended the fight with a finish. “I didn’t feel he’s strong at all. I saw a lot of little details he does good. He has a couple of good answers to get up… I dominated the guy on the floor. If I had a little bit less lotion I think I could get it done,” said Gilbert Burns.

Apart from the lotion accusation, Burns threatened the leave UFC if Dana White didn’t put him in a fight for the welterweight title. He even offered to take up the backup fighter role for the Colby Covington vs Leon Edwards fight, which the UFC president agreed to. We’ll have to wait and see if he gets a title shot, just like ‘Chaos’ did after taking the backup role for the UFC 286 headliner.
