Here are some of the reactions from Facebook users:

  • He was an absolute savage in Pride and a legend of the sport! Glad he is retiring tho and sticking with it!
  • I loved him for knocking out Machida, as I found his “elusive” style of hanging back and countering a really cheap way to fight and boring as hell to watch. Huge fan of Shogun after he did that.
  • one of my favourite fighter for so long, even if i did not really recognized him in the ufc , he’s one of the best add to mma, all his fights in pride were just from another level , Chute boxe Hoaaaaaaaa
  • He’ll be fighting Jake Paul by the end of the year.
  • Watched highlights of him today just to remember how much of a savage he was. One of the original OG’s.
  • The new “retiring” bouncing from ufc and actually getting paid in other orgs.

Many people hailed him as one of the original fighters in MMA and how good he was inside the cage. Some people speculated that “retiring” could be just an excuse to go and fight in other promotions and get paid more. Meanwhile, some speculated that he might fight YouTuber Jake Paul by the end of 2023.

‘Shogun’ has achieved almost everything there is in the sport of MMA. His announcement came just after Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from all aspects of MMA.
