Former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo is only a few weeks away from making his much-awaited UFC return. ‘Triple C’ will face bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288 on May 6. As the 36-year-old looks to make a triumphant return by winning his old title back, he received an unexpected blow.

To the dismay of Cejudo, along with the majority of the fans, UFC 288 lost its initial co-main event. UFC lightweights Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush were set to face each other in the co-main event. The potential title eliminator is no longer on the card after Oliveira pulled out due to injury. Rather than find a replacement to fill in for the former champion, the UFC postponed the fight to a later date. However, this left the fans with a card they felt was not up to PPV standards.

Now, Henry Cejudo has put forward a suggestion for the UFC to improve the quality of the UFC 288 main card and boost PPV sales. He also suggested a name for the UFC’s consideration, to feature in the co-main and add some “heat” to the affairs.

Henry Cejudo suggests a name for UFC 288 co-main

In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Henry Cejudo addressed the UFC 288 co-main event situation. The former Olympic champion admitted that the loss of Oliveira vs Dariush dealt a huge blow to the card. He also added that the current card needed another co-main to spice things up for the fans. ‘Triple C’s suggestion for the same was former UFC interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier.

He said, “If a guy like Dustin Poirier is willing to step in, step him in. I mean, this is where the pay-per-view numbers are going to go up. It’s been damn three years that I fought. You see what I’m saying?”

Cejudo continued, “Aljamain probably ain’t the most lovable guy either. You see what I’m saying? So we do need a little bit of that co-main event heat that can kind of complement the main event as well.”

In the end, he added, “But if you’re gonna have two girls who people don’t really know about… This is really on the UFC’s back.”

The updated UFC 288 co-main is between Jessica Andrade and Yan Xiaonan. If Cejudo had his way, he would make Poirier vs Dariush the co-main event and give the winner a shot at the lightweight title. Since the UFC is not entertaining the idea, Cejudo must wait with the rest of the fans to see what becomes of the situation.
