He’s number two. I don’t know what to have him at right now, but he is definitely number two behind the Nigerian Nightmare man.” After Schmo asked if he was to be ranked above Adesanya, Cejudo added the following.

Hell yeah. A hundred percent. I don’t know what they have enough, but Alexander Volkanovski should be two. But it’s a popularity thing. If you’re popular, you can dance, dude, they will freaking put you, you know, pound-for-pound.”

He further added, “If you have a loss, dude, you shouldn’t be top two. It should always be, uh, top one and two, challenging because they’re both undefeated nobody has lost in the UFC. So I disagree with all these people that love seeing a cartwheel. I don’t get it. Volkanovski’s number two.”

Pound for Pound list has been determined by the fighters’ achievements throughout their careers. Cejudo’s statements reflect the opposite, as they also seem to consider the fighter’s popularity. Sure, skills primarily determine your position on the list. However, a fighter’s fame also is a huge determinant of the position, according to Triple C.
