The fighters are all geared up to make a mark at UFC 271. It takes place at Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas. The middleweight title bout between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker will finally happen on February 12. This is one of the most anticipated bouts of this year. However, it is extremely surprising to know that the champion signed the bout agreement only during the fight week.

While fighters generally sign the bout agreement in advance, it looks like the UFC made an exception this time. Further, he also signed a brand new lucrative multi-fight deal with the promotion. So fans can expect to see him be a part of more blockbuster fights in the future.

Speaking about the UFC and his fight agreement, Adesanya said (h/t MMA Fighting), “Look, I love the UFC. I’ve looked at this company and wanted to be in this company for so long. I love that we’ve gotten to this agreement finally.”

“Side note, I just signed for this actual bout this week. Let you know how deep it went but I’m glad we came to this agreement. I’m glad we have a good working relationship. Like I said, with everything happening right now, this will trickle down to the rest of the fighters and it’s only going to be great for the company. Just give it time.”

Thus, while Adesanya agreed to the rematch against Whittaker, he hadn’t signed the contract until now. However, now that the formality has been completed, UFC fans just need to wait for the date to approach.

UFC promoting Israel Adesanya versus Robert Whittaker

It’s great that Adesanya stayed true to his word and signed the contract last minute. Otherwise, the event would be in big jeopardy.

While Adesanya is happy with the new deal he has signed, he was not happy with the way his UFC 271 bout was announced. According to ‘The Last Stylebender’, nobody saw the announcement. As a result, he felt that the UFC should have put some more effort into promoting such a huge fight.

Regardless, his new deal could make him the second-highest-paid fighter in the UFC. Therefore, the promotion surely knows the value of having ‘Izzy’ fight for them.
