Here’s the Story Behind How Tom Hardy Broke Into His Director’s House After Landing His Role in an MMA Movie

Mixed martial arts is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and the face of MMA is currently none other than the UFC. Many movies have covered the life of MMA fighters and the behind-the-scenes of the glamourous lifestyle. One of the movies that depicted this very well was the movie “Warrior”, which starred Tom Hardy.
Hardy played the role of a former Marine, Tommy, who trained for a mixed martial arts contest. It showed the struggles and the hard work that goes in before the fighters put their life on the line in the cage.

According to a report from GQ, Tom Hardy did not land his role in the movie with ease. Hardy landed this role in the most unexpected way. The actor was not too fond of doing interviews. So the director, Gavin O’Connor, had Tom Hardy come to his house to audition for the role.
Instead of staying with O’Connor for only one day, like they had planned to before, Hardy ended up staying at O’Connor’s house for a total of five days.

In those five days, the director and Hardy grew much closer to each other, and O’Connor learned about Tom’s personal life and the struggles he faced before stardom. After this, he knew Hardy was suited for the role and offered him the opportunity to star in the movie.
O’Connor on why he didn’t team up with the UFC for the MMA movie: Warrior
The movie ‘Warrior’ released in 2011, the UFC was the main stage for mixed martial arts back then as well. In his interview with GQ talked about why he didn’t work with the UFC.

He said,” I didn’t consider working with them because I didn’t want to do anything like the UFC. This was intentional, so I don’t have an Octagon, the way the arenas are lit are very different, the entrances are different, the girls, I have girls in gowns with beach balls, my ring card girls.”
