Khamzat Chimaev is about to go up against Paulo Costa and everyone has expectations. Already, UFC veterans like Chael Sonnen and Joe Rogan have voiced their opinions about the fight. Now, a veteran coach from the team of one of the best UFC fighters shares his two cents. Chimaev is one of the most terrifying fighters in the middleweight division right now and Costa is up for the challenge.

The beef between the two is hot and boiling. In a very recent move, Chimaev pulled a dirty trick by trying to drag in Costa’s girlfriend to troll him. However, it didn’t go too well for the fighter. Fans are suspecting that he’ll just have to exact his revenge inside the cage. Many have picked him as the winner but what did this famous coach have to say about Khamzat Chimaev?

Team Khabib coach praises Chimaev in new clip

Javier Mendez is currently coaching Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s brother, Usman Nurmagomedov. The fighter is currently signed with Bellator and recently defeated Brent Primus via unanimous decision at Bellator 300. Clearly, the fighting blood is still boiling hot in the Nurmagomedov family. Mendez had appeared for an interview where he was asked about the upcoming pay-per-view UFC 294.

He started off with telling the reporter that he was expecting a new and “highly motivated” Charles Oliveria during the main event. After Chimaev, Islam Makhachev will be taking on his rematch against ‘Do Bronx’ in grand fashion. Makhachev is also a very vital part of Team Khabib so it was obvious Mendez lent him his support after all, predicting him the winner if he followed the “game plan”. It was then that he spoke about Chimaev.

“I got to go with Khamzat,” Mendez started. “He’s my guy. I like that guy. He’s a killer. Khamzat. I think Khamzat. If he follows the plan of what I think he can, he can make it a rough fight ’cause Paulo Costa, he’s a tough guy you know but I think Khamzat.” He reiterated in the end.

Clearly, the coach has his faith in Chimaev’s victory. He might not be the only one because fans of the former Sweden resident also believe he has what it takes to clinch the victory. Once Chimaev beats Costa, a roadmap for him to eventually take on the champion, Sean Strickland will be more than set. Here’s what could happen to the winner of the co-main event.

What could be next for Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa?

If the UFC legend Chael Sonnen is to be believed, the fight is going to be high risk, high reward. That is, the winner might just go on to take on Sean Strickland very quickly. This could mean the fans would finally get to see ‘Tarzan’ up against ‘Borz’. However, bad news follows for the loser of the two according to Sonnen.

“Whoever doesn’t win, it’s going to be two and three years before that discussion even comes back,” said Sonnen.
