Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington is easily the most talked about fighter in the welterweight division. Covington has been in the spotlight for a couple of years now, which has earned him 2 championship fights in the last 4 years. However, Covington was unsuccessful in capturing the belts as he found his kryptonite in Kamaru Usman. But, for his third title shot at UFC 296, Covington will face a different challenge in Leon Edwards, the man who beat Kamaru Usman twice in a row.

Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards is currently the welterweight champion in the UFC. In August 2022, ‘Rocky’ earned his strap by knocking out Usman in the 5th round after a dominating performance by the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’. In Match 2023, he defended his belt against Usman again in London, where he silenced his critics by winning a unanimous decision over the former champ. Edwards has shown that he is the reigning king of the UFC welterweight division, but he has ‘Chaos’ approaching him to strip him of the title. Everybody has different takes on how the fight will go. Here’s what Conor McGregor’s coach, Owen Roddy, has to say about the matchup.

In a recent interview with ’TheMacLife’ on YouTube, McGregor’s coach Owen Roddy gave his take on the fight between Covington and Edwards. He started off by stating, “It’s a tricky one, you know. Two very intelligent fighters. I always said about Leon and Fabian that they always came with really good, really intelligent game plans.”

Roddy claimed that he believes Covington is a harder fight for Edwards, stating, “I do believe that Colby’s a trickier fight than Usman. I think his chain wrestling might be a bit of a problem for Leon. But like I said, if Leon can nullify the wrestling and keep it on the feet, he’s got the power to put Colby away.”

He concludes by giving his pick for the fight by stating, “Obviously, if Colby can keep mixing it up and make it difficult for Leon, he could win via decision. But, I’ll go with Leon.”

Owen Roddy summed the fight up pretty well. The fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington could possibly go either way, as both fighters have the tools needed to beat the other. But it being Covington’s third fight for the title, there could be more pressure around him.

Could Colby Covington have his last shot at the title against Leon Edwards?

It is very rare for someone to get as many title shots as Colby Covington. Covington has managed to secure 3 shots at the title in just four years. This could be because people believed that Covington was the next best fighter in the UFC after Kamaru Usman. However, Leon Edwards showed that he was better by beating Usman twice.

This got the MMA world curious to see how Covington, the supposed ‘second best’ fighter in the division, would fare against the current champ. However, if he fails to capture the belt from Edwards, people believe that it will take quite a while for him to get another shot at the title. UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping certainly feels that this would be his last shot to capture the UFC welterweight belt.
