For the kind of fighter Conor McGregor is, the record that he holds in the Lightweight division is surprisingly disappointing. The former UFC Lightweight champion has fought across three weight classes – Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight. In the Lightweight division, McGregor has a baffling single win.

McGregor, who is probably one of the most popular UFC fighters in the current era, is a great champion and a great fighter. He has flourished in the Featherweight division and in the Welterweight division as well, securing important victories over fighters like Donald Cerrone, Nate Diaz, and more.

UFC Commentator Jon Anik recently dropped the news that Conor McGregor has a single win in the Lightweight division. His win came against Eddie Alvarez and that win gave him the title. Taking into consideration the immensely impressive 22-6-0 record that McGregor has, it is not hard to tell that he didn’t fare too well in the division.

And one of the most amazing statistics in MMA history is that Conor McGregor’s weight class, that, in theory, would have been the best one for him to fight in, long term – 155 pounds – Conor has one lightweight win and it’s over Eddie Alvarez for the title. And yes that made him the double champion and you can argue that as the most significant singular win in UFC Lightweight history because of it.“, said Anik, in a recent interview with DraftKings on YouTube.

But absolutely remarkable that Conor McGregor has only one Lightweight win in his entire career and that’s why of course he’s not anywhere near this conversation, as great as I think he could have been competing consistently at 155 pounds.” added the UFC commentator, surprised at the numbers himself.

Despite multiple warnings and intimations, Conor McGregor did not join the USADA pool and his match against Chandler had to be forfeited. The news is that he would be returning next year and facing Chandler in 2024.

Amidst all this, Conor McGregor has asked for a Welterweight title shot against the division champion Leon Edwards if he wins his bout against Michael Chandler. This proposition has been deemed unfair and unjust by many fighters, one of whom is UFC Lightweight fighter Justin Gaethje who explicitly voiced his grievance on this matter. This seems like a fast-track ticket to the top of the division and not everyone is happy with this.

UFC President Dana White has made no official statement on this matter. As of now, McGregor’s failure to join the USADA pool is the news of the hour. It goes without saying that the UFC fans, Dana White and even Michael Chandler are not too happy about this delay and inconvenience.
