Dustin Poirier last entered the octagon at UFC 269. The number 2 ranked UFC lightweight took on Charles Oliveira for the title. This was his second attempt at capturing the gold, but he failed to do so.
After dominating the first round and dropping ‘Do Bronx’ multiple times, he was unable to capitalize. Oliveira got back into the fight and made him submit in the third round. Since that fight, there have been talks about him switching his weight class and going up to welterweight. Islam Makhachev recently chipped in on this.
In a recent interview, Makhachev was asked about Poirier thinking of going up to 170.

He said, “I think he just want to make money. He knows he’s not going to be champion no more. That’s why he think about money now. And he just wanna choose weights where he can make more money. This is my opinion.”
Many consider Makhachev to be the next big thing in the lightweight division. He is Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s protégé and training partner and is coming off a huge win over Dan Hooker. The Russian is on a nine-fight winning streak right now and will enter the octagon at UFC Fight Night 202.
The Dagestan native will take on the number 3 ranked Beneil Dariush. The fight is sure to have title complications and both men will eye a win.
Dustin Poirier thinks he’ll stop Nate Diaz
Ever since Poirier lost at UFC 269, he and Nate Diaz have been at each other’s throats. Diaz made the first callout and Poirier didn’t take any time in responding to it as well.
Both men want to fight each other and haven’t hidden that desire. It is a fight that the MMA community also wants to see and, according to Dana White, even the UFC wants this fight to happen. However, nothing concrete has happened until now, and till that happens, it is only speculation.
During a recent Q&A session on Twitter, Dustin Poirier was confident in his abilities while talking about the fight. One fan asked him if he could finish Diaz or win by decision. To which he said, “I’d stop him.”

Both fighters are warriors and like to leave everything inside the octagon. This fight is a recipe for success, and the UFC would want to capitalize on the opportunity at the earliest.
