Chael Sonnen weighs in on Francis Ngannou vs. Jon Jones
According to the 45-year-old Francis Ngannou vs. Jon Jones “is the biggest fight you can put on in our industry.” Sonnen called it “a very peculiar situation” that a fight between two contenders that have been out of action for a combined four years should be the most anticipated fight in the sport.
Ngannou last entered the octagon against Ciryl Gane in January 2022. ‘The Predator’ dominated the Frenchman to complete his first title defense. Since then, the Cameroonian has been out of action with a knee injury.

Sonnen reveals why Ngannou should re-sign with UFC
After analyzing the current situation at heavyweight, Sonnen stated that the best option for Francis Ngannou would be to re-sign with the UFC. The 45-year-old mentioned Ngannou is in a safe spot as he has not been stripped of his title. Therefore, he would return as champion if he re-signed with the promotion.
Sonnen also pointed out that other rumored matchups favored the current champion. Talks of Jones vs. Stipe and Jones vs. Curtis Blaydes had the interim title tag attached to them. This is in Ngannou’s favor, according to Sonnen.

“If that were true, that would protect Francis — he’s only got so much time to get his contract worked out and his knee healed up… I’m just sharing with you that if he comes back and is still undisputed champion, he’s in a pretty good spot… because he’s the one bringing the title.”
However, Sonnen said, if the UFC strips him of his title, then “all bets are off.”
