Brian Ortega is all set to challenge for the UFC title a second time at UFC 266. ‘T-City’ had earlier faced Max Holloway for the title at UFC 231 and lost via a 4th round TKO (doctors stoppage). Now, as Ortega prepares to take on Volkanovski for the title, he was asked to share his opinion of his opponent.

During a recent interview with Helen Yee Sports, they asked Ortega what he thinks of Volkanovski and his skill set. ‘T-City’ was quick to heap praise on the champion and acknowledge his accomplishments. He said, “Well, he’s the best. If you look at him, he’s the best.”

“He’s the champ, he has the belt for a reason; he beat Max twice. I take no credit from anyone. You have to look at their accomplishments and what they’re good at and what they’ve done. He’s got something that people don’t have, that the world has yet to catch up on.”

“So I take nothing lightly, I look at everything and I see what I can look at and study from him. And say you know this is why we fight.”

“You look at someone; you look at their skills and you study and you say you know what I think with what I have planned, I can take this man out. That’s the game we’re in and entertain all these people with the fight.”

Leading up to the fight, both Volkanovski and Ortega have taken various shots at each other. However, Ortega still talked about how he respects the champion and looks to learn from him.

What to expect from the fight between Brian Ortega and Alexander Volkanovski?

Ortega is coming into the fight on the back of a dominating victory against Chan Sung Jung at UFC Fight Island 6. However, prior to that victory, Ortega had suffered the only loss of his MMA career. ‘T-City’ had faced Max Holloway at the UFC 231 event and lost via TKO. Therefore, this time around, the fighter would look to perform better and win the title.

Meanwhile, ‘The Great’ is undefeated since 2013 and is currently riding high on a 19 fight win streak. Holloway became the champion after defeating Holloway at UFC 245 and then, in his last fight, defended the title at UFC 251.

Therefore, if one goes by form, Volkanovski clearly holds the upper hand. However, Ortega is an incredibly talented fighter, and defeating him will not be easy for ‘The Great’.

Who do you think will win the fight between Ortega and Volkanovski? Let us know in the comments.
