Canelo Alvarez is one of the best boxing talents ever to live. The 31-year-old made history by becoming the first undisputed champion at super middleweight. Not only he is the best active super-middleweight but also the world’s best active boxer, pound for pound.
Alvarez recently defeated Caleb Plant for a super middleweight unification boxing match. The fight took place on November 6, 2021, and ended in an 11th-round technical knockout victory for Alvarez. Taking no breaks, Canelo announced something that shook the boxing world.

Instead of defending his super-middleweight belts, Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso announced his plans to change the weight class. Canelo intends to move up to 200-pounds- cruiserweight territory. His trainer also shared that WBC has approved of this. This announcement left many people in shock.
Consequently, Joe Rogan also shared his opinion on this move. While talking with UFC bantamweight fighter Marlon Vera on his podcast, the topic of skills and power came up. Joe talked about how Canelo has everything from power to a ridiculous defense.
Rogan shared,” The crazy thing is that he wants to go into the cruiserweight and Usyk said he wants to fight him at cruiserweight. I don’t know if he wants to take that fight. He’s the greatest of all time if he beats Usyk. He wants to take these challenges, to take these chances Caleb Plant was the biggest challenge in his weight class.”
Marlon shared his side of an opinion and said,” I feel at this point, taking that fight will only make you better. If you put risk against reward.”

Will Canelo Alvarez vs Oleksandr Usyk ever happen?
Oleksandr Usyk vacated his cruiserweight titles back in 2019 to move up to the heavyweight division. If they both agree to fight each other, Canelo will have to move up and Usyk will have to come down. While Canelo is the world’s best active pound-for-pound boxer, Usyk is in 4th position.
