Following his victory over Sandhagen, ‘No Mercy’ appeared in the post-fight press conference. He talked about his victory and next moves in the UFC. At one point during the Q&A session, a reporter asked Yan about his feeling of having his son watch him fight inside the octagon.

To which the 28-year-old replied by saying, “You know I didn’t see my family for two months during the training camp. And they came here for the fight week to support me. Of course, it is a big responsibility. But my family is my biggest motivation.

After becoming the new interim bantamweight champion, it is obvious that Petr Yan will unify his belt for the bantamweight gold against Aljamain Sterling. However, ‘No Mercy’ seemed disinterested in fighting Sterling.

Both the combatants crossed paths previously for the bantamweight gold strap. However, even after dominating Sterling, Yan lost after he landed an illegal knee. ‘Funk Master’ became the new champion and was scheduled to defend his belt against Yan in a rematch at UFC 267.

However, Sterling suffered a neck injury before the event and pulled out of the bout. Hence, Cory Sandhagen turned in to fight the Russian for the interim title.
